Yellow Sash Wedding Gown

This dress that looks to be from the 1800’s is a wispy voile overlay to what would have been a number of undergarments. I placed a piece of black foam core up inside the dress in order to show the handiwork to better effect.

The crochet balls that dot the creamy yellow sash enliven the whole garment by creating three dimensions and movement. They give a lightness of spirit to the gown that I find more serious than without. There is also something interesting about how the crochet orbs create a fluted edge effect in the fabric as they tug on each spot that they are sewn onto. Unintended, but effective nevertheless.
