Satin Rose Tobacco Beaded Gown

This gown is part of a collection of two hundred dresses that had been owned by a cabaret singer. This collection represents only one decade of her life as a performer. The dresses were put up for sale when the singer was in her 90’s.

I had the privilege of working with the vintage clothing collector who acquired them. The smoky bugle bead leaves are more animated because they are outlined in the yellow creamy edging which allows for lyrical shapes rather than the stiff beads that are more likely to create sharp edges and angles. The dimensional roses are framed by the leaves, and the entire effect of the taupe color scheme avoids the sweetness of the roses, opting for a sophisticated glamour instead.
