PRINT TITLE: Fern Globe

DESCRIPTION: This is a photograph of a Russian celestial globe. It is very old, so the images are faint. The ferns surrounding the image are ones that I picked in the woods after a very early hard frost. It was so early that I think the ferns turned white because they hadn’t had a chance to die off yet and turn brown. The ferns are set against a piece of marbled paper that I made myself. I made special tools for the marbling in order to create certain shapes in the paint. The photograph of the globe is set against the back bodice of a dress that belonged to a cabaret singer who is now in her 90s and lives in New Hampshire. You can see the inside of the dress at the top of the image.
