Fishtails
This is a photograph of a group of fishtails. My brother, who died young, fished in the Colorado Rockies when we were teenagers. He would catalogue all of his catches by saving the tail and pinning to it the notes from the day. The weather, the date and the size of the fish were among the notations that he made. His box of fishtails is one of the only things left of his that I have.
The dried up flowers were picked by me and a friend in the colder part of late autumn, and they are set against a piece of paper that I hand-marbled. The fishtails are set on a different piece of paper that I also hand-marbled. The image of the fishtails is set against a vintage cocktail dress that looks a lot like the scales of a fish or running water. I love how it creates dappled movement with the sequins on the dress.
