Bespoke Gloves

This pair of gloves was made for a pair of hands that had unique aspects to them.

Two of the fingers appear to be fused and others are different lengths. Whomever commissioned these gloves seemed to have taken great care of the wearer, at a time when physical anomalies were cause for ridicule and exclusion. These gloves are a testament of sorts that contradicts the sentiment of the day and I appreciate them for it. They are well-made and look to have had their share of use.

The Updegraff family of Hagerstown Maryland made hats during the Civil War, and later were listed as glove makers.
